How to work with Orka VM tools

Orka VM Tools is a service that enables users to manage guest VM operating systems more effectively. Orka VM Tools start when the guest operating system starts and allow communication between the underlying VM process on the host and the guest operating system.

Orka VM Tools are only compatible with ARM-based guest operating systems with macOS 12 or later versions.

Orka VM Tools are pre-installed on each ARM-based base image that MacStadium provides.

The following Orka Cluster features require Orka VM Tools for them to work as expected:

IMPORTANT

Make sure to pull the updated image from the MacStadium Image Respository to use Orka VM Tools on your virtual machines and benefit from the new Orka features. Installing Orka VM tools to your VMs as a standalone installation is available with Orka Cluster 2.2.0+.

To access the latest features and updates, always run the Orka VM Tools version that matches your cluster and the other Orka tools and integrations you're using. For example: your cluster, Orka tools and integrations, and Orka VM Tools all run 3.x versions.

Orka VM Tools run as a background service. They start automatically as a daemon when the operating system starts. You can control the Orka VM Tools process using the following commands:

Run sudo launchctl list com.orka.vm.tools to see if Orka VM Tools are running in your VM.
